Kilimanjaro Mountain Guide

Overview

During these 6 days of Climbing Kilimanjaro via the Marangu route, we would like to guide you to the peak’s esteemed summit by way of the Marangu Route. Also known as the Coca-Cola Route, the Marangu Route is considered a classic path to the top of Kilimanjaro. It is the oldest and most well-established of the peak’s different routes, which also include Machame, Lemosho, and more.

The route is also considered one of the easiest routes as well. Thus making the journey far less about the arduous challenge that comes with scaling such a mighty mountain but on the wonder of the experience itself. There are also tremendous views to consider as well! Finally, along the Marangu Route, instead of sleeping in campsites, you will get to spend the nights resting in comfortable mountain huts.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

We will transfer you from Kilimanjaro Airport to your hotel in Moshi, Kilimanjaro. You can spend the rest of the day relaxing at the hotel or exploring the town of Moshi. We will brief you about the trek in the evening.

  • Overnight at Chanya Lodge

Day 2: From Moshi – Marangu Gate (1,860 m) – Mandara hut (2,700 m)

After breakfast, we’ll head to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate and begin our trek post-registration. Hiking through a dense forest, we’ll catch a glimpse of the black and white colobus monkeys scrambling through the lush vegetation. A good hike of 3-4 hours takes us to the Mandara Hut. After a well-earned rest, you can stroll to the Maundi Crater to enjoy wonderful views leading all the way to Kenya.

  • Meals: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 3: Mandara Hut (2,700 m) to Horombo Hut (3,700 m)

Continuing further, we’ll notice that the vegetation changes from dense forest to shrubs. We’ll reach the Horombo Hut after 5-6 hours, from where, you’ll have fantastic views of Mawenzi, Kibo peak, and the Masai steppe.

  • Meals: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 4: Horombo Hut (3,700 m) – Zebra Rocks (4,020 m) – Horombo Hut (3,700 m)

Today’s purpose is to get you acclimatized. So, we’ll set off on a trek to Zebra Rocks. The distinctive black and white stripes give the rock formation its name. We’ll return to Horombo Hut after the hike to spend the evening.

  • Meals: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 5: Horombo Hut (3,700 m) – Kibo Hut (4,700 m)

The trail leads onto the “last waterpoint” which is followed by the so-called “saddle”. This nearly plantless plateau links the summit of Kibo with Mawenzi. We’ll reach the Kibo hut to get enough rest for the upcoming summit hike.

  • Meals: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 6: Kibo Hut (4,700 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Horombo Hut (3,700 m)

We will start in the middle of the night when the lava ash is still frozen and walking on it is easier and head towards the summit. Passing the Hans Meyer Cave (5,220 m), the climb slowly but surely goes upwards. At sunrise, you will reach Gilman’s Point (5,681 m) on the crater rim. Another hike of 1 to 2 hours takes you to Uhuru Peak.

It will be incredible to stand on the “Roof of Africa”. We’ll return via the same route and after a warm lunch at Kibo Hut, descend all the way to Horombo Hut.
